Covington Garners All-Region Recognition
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Huntingdon's standout tightend Brody Covington has been named to d3football.com's Third team All-Region for Region 3.
The teams, selected in balloting by Region 3 sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 195 nominations by full Division III member schools. A total of 78 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025.
Berry running back Brandon Cade and Hardin-Simmons linebacker Charlie Patterson lead the D3football.com 2024 All-Region 3 team. Cade was named Region 3 Offensive Player of the Year, while Patterson was named the Region 3 Defensive Player of the Year. Maryville coach Ben Fox, who coached his Scots to a 9-2 overall record, including a playoff win and a trip to the second round of the NCAA playoffs, is the Region 3 Coach of the Year. It is his fifth season as head coach.
NCAA Division III realigned Division III football into six regions in 2021. Region 3 includes the American Southwest Conference, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, the Southern Athletic Association, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the USA South Athletic Conference.
Coming after his first team all USA South selection just a few weeks ago, Covington's all-region selection makes him the first tightend in Huntingdon Football history to do so. This past season, he led the Hawks in receptions(31) and receiving touchdowns(7) on the season. The Rogersville, Alabama native proved to be a force in the redzone, establishing himself as one of the regions most dependable players in crucial spots.
"I am so proud of Brody for so many reasons," shared head coach Mike Turk. "His selfless, humble approach to serving our team this year has been very refreshing. He is a guy that does not mind doing the "dirty work" that is associated with playing his position, and was a very dependable guy when we threw the ball to him. Not only am I proud of him, but thankful and happy for him to receive this recognition".
"First, I have to give all the glory to God, without him I am nothing," shared Covington following his selection. "Thank you to my family and all of my coaches and teammates. I am honored and grateful to receive this recognition. Without the people that I have on my side, this would not be possible".
Entering into his senior season in the Fall of 2025, Brody looks forward to leading the Hawks as they prepare for their upcoming season. Stay tuned for news to come of Huntingdon Football.
