Hawks Fall To Milligan Before Rebounding With Shutout Win Over Mars Hill

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn.- Hitting the road for the first time since their season-opener at Brewton Parker, Huntingdon Women's Flag Football opened their day with a 39-19 loss to Milligan before rebounding with a massive 61-0 win over NCAA Division II Mars Hill. 

Game One v. Milligan

Huntingdon started fast, jumping out to a 12-0 first-quarter lead behind the legs of Tamiyah Carter, who broke free for a 49-yard touchdown run before adding a second rushing score early in the second quarter. Carter finished with 76 rushing yards and two touchdowns while also contributing through the air.

The Hawks totaled 334 yards of offense and 15 first downs, with Kennedi Young throwing for 163 yards and a touchdown and adding 26 receiving yards. Carter added 87 passing yards as the two quarterbacks combined for 250 through the air.

Imani Bentley led the receiving corps with seven catches for 72 yards, while Kelis Russell (37 yards), Shalimar St. Juste (28 yards, TD), and Alyssa Llanos (27 yards) each made key contributions. Huntingdon found the end zone again late in the third quarter when Young connected on a scoring drive that cut the deficit to one possession at 27-19.

Defensively, Aaliyah Richard paced the Hawks with nine tackles, while Carter added seven tackles and a sack. Ashley Sajous recorded six tackles and later came up with an interception, and Sincere Johns added a sack and multiple tackles for loss as Huntingdon continued to fight through all four quarters.

Despite the strong start and balanced production, a stretch of scoring drives in the middle quarters proved decisive as the Hawks fell 39-19.

Game Two v. Mars Hill

Young was nearly flawless, completing 25 of 27 passes for 229 yards and seven touchdowns without an interception. She also added a rushing touchdown, accounting for eight total scores.

Kylah Rome delivered a standout performance with 10 receptions for 96 yards and four touchdowns, consistently creating separation and finishing drives in the red zone. St. Juste added a 42-yard touchdown reception, while Bentley (six catches, 34 yards, TD) and Russell (three catches, 25 yards, TD) each hauled in scoring grabs. Mikayla Allen added three receptions and contributed in the return game.

The defense matched the offensive explosion. Huntingdon limited Mars Hill to just 94 total yards and intercepted four passes. Aaliyah Richard returned an interception for a touchdown, while Jazlyn JonesMikayla Allen, and St. Juste also recorded interceptions. Sajous led the unit with 4.5 tackles, and Johns added two tackles for loss as the Hawks secured the shutout. Huntingdon scored in every quarter and controlled the tempo from start to finish, closing the tri-match with authority.

The Hawks will look to keep rolling on March 6th at home as they welcome Point University to Charles Lee Stadium. Gametime is set for 1:00 PM CT.
