MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Huntingdon dropped a hard-fought 13-11 decision to the Centenary College of Louisiana on Saturday afternoon in a game that featured multiple momentum swings and a late Hawks push.
The two sides traded blows throughout the first half, with Huntingdon taking a 5-4 edge early in the second quarter before heading into the break tied at 6-6. The Gents responded with a 5-3 third quarter to build an 11-9 advantage entering the final period.
Centenary stretched the lead to 13-9 early in the fourth, but the Hawks refused to go away. Connor Angst cut into the deficit with his second goal of the day, and Jaxon McMonigle converted a man-up opportunity with 4:05 remaining to pull Huntingdon within 13-11. The Hawks' defense held from there, but they were unable to find the equalizer in the closing minutes.
McMonigle led Huntingdon with four goals on the afternoon, while Kelcey Marston added two scores. Angst finished with two goals, and Brennan Britten, Josh Knost and Hunter Rives each found the back of the net once.
Ethan Schellenberger and Nathan Brezovec combined for 15 saves in goal, but Centenary's 22-5 advantage at the faceoff stripe and 30-9 edge in ground balls proved pivotal in the narrow setback.
The Hawks will look to respond on Thursday, February 26th at home against Hanover. Gametime is set for 6:00 PM CT.
