Hawks Drop Conference-Opener To Asbury
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Welcoming the defending conference champions to Montgomery for their conference opening match, Huntingdon Men's Tennis couldn't get it going in a 7-0 loss to the Asbury University Eagles on Friday afternoon.
Despite what the scoreline might indicate, the Hawks battled hard, even capturing a win at #1 doubles with a solid performance from both Tyler Garcia and Clayton Philley. See below for the full doubles and singles results.
Doubles
- Tyler Garcia and Clayton Philley defeated Franco Patino and Ignacio Ardiles 6-4
- William Massey and Lincoln Young were defeated by Andy Caceres and Alejo Britos 6-4
- Zach Cox and Sage Speer were defeated by Ben Moore and Paolo Cargnelutti 6-1
Singles
- William Massey was defeated by Ben Moore in three sets, winning the first 6-0 before dropping the second 6-1. In the third, Massey fell short 7-6(tiebreaker 7-2)
- Tyler Garcia was defeated by Franco Patino 6-0 in each set
- Lincoln Young was defeated by Ignacio Ardiles 6-1 and 6-2
- Zach Cox was defeated by Alejio Britos in three sets, dropping the first 6-2, winning the second 6-4, but falling in the third 6-3
- Sage Speer was defeated by Andy Caceres 6-1 in each set
- Clayton Philley was defeated by Ignacio Murillo 6-1 and 6-0
The Hawks have an opportunity to bounce back at home tomorrow, march 7th, against Maryville. Matches are set to begin at 12:00 PM CT.
