Hawks Drop Senior Day Battle With Southern Virginia
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Closing out the regular season at home for Senior Day against Southern Virginia, Huntingdon Women's Lacrosse couldn't find their footing, falling 21-6 to the Knights.
Prior to the start of the game, Huntingdon recognized the program's five seniors for the commitments to the program, both on and off the field. This year's seniors are:
- Bayleigh Pitts of Panama City, Florida
- Kate Hudson of Navarre, Florida
- Savannah Pitts of Panama City, Florida
- Reagan Barrett of Wallis, Texas
- Amara Veng of St. Augustine, Florida
Southern Virginia set the tone early, scoring six of the game's first eight goals and closing the opening quarter on a 4-0 run to take an 8-3 lead.
The Knights continued to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring Huntingdon 6-0 to build a 14-3 halftime advantage. Southern Virginia controlled possession throughout, finishing with a 45-13 edge in shots and a 20-8 advantage in draw controls.
Huntingdon showed flashes in the second half, highlighted by a third-quarter goal from Amara Veng off a feed from Reagan Barrett, along with a pair of fourth-quarter scores from Barrett. Barrett led the Hawks with three goals and an assist, while Veng added two goals and two assists. Molly Turnan also found the net in the first quarter, and the Hawks totaled five assists on six goals.
Defensively, Kendall Hallas and Sydney Mikula combined for 12 saves in goal, but the Hawks were under constant pressure. Southern Virginia also held advantages in ground balls (36-24) and forced 22 Huntingdon turnovers.
