Hawks Drop Season-Opening Nailbiter To Brevard
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- In their first match of the 2025 season under the leadership of coach Kathleen Thompson, Huntingdon women's tennis played host to the Brevard Tornadoes of the USA South Athletic Conference.
The Hawks started strong, claiming the doubles points by winning two of the three matches, but couldn't hang on to their lead, falling 4-3 in their first match of the season. Senior Taji Williams and junior Lilly Brown starred on the day, going undefeated in their singles and doubles matches. See below for the comprehensive results.
Doubles
- Lilly Brown and Taji Williams defeated Hannah Hersh and Sophie Trantham 6-4
- Ella Hathcock and Natalie Tedesco were defeated by Jada Ore and Gracie Spangler 6-3
- Athens DeVer and Angelina Mazza defeated Ava Thrift and Casey Wampler 6-4
Singles
- Lilly Brown defeated Hannah Hersh in three sets, claiming the first 6-4 before falling in the second, 7-5, but rebounding to win the third 10-8
- Taji Williams defeated Gracie Spangler 6-3 in both sets
- Natalie Tedesco fell to Sophie Trantham in three sets, winning second set 6-4, but losing the first 6-3 and the tiebreaker 10-3
- Ella Hathcock was defeated by Jada Ore 6-3 and 6-1
- Athens DeVer was defeated by Casey Wampler 6-4 and 6-1
- Angelina Mazza was defeated by Ava Thrift in three sets, winning the second 6-4, but losing the first 7-5 and the third 10-7
The Hawks return to action at the George S. Gibbs Tennis Center tomorrow, February 15th, against MUW. Matches are set to begin at 11:00 AM CT.
