6th Man Of The Year Nate Johns Headlines Hawks All-Conference Selections

ATLANTA, Ga.- The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its 2024-25 CCS men's basketball all-conference honorees, as voted on by the league's head coaches. 

Huntingdon saw 5 athletes recognized, with Nate Johns being dubbed the 6th man of the year and receiving an second team all-conference bid, BJ Brown and Martise Jackson garnering first team all-conference recognition, Ray'Quan Taylor being selected to the second team, and Richie Hicks rounding things out with an all-sportsmanship team selection.

Johns provided a crucial spark off the bench for the Hawks, delivering efficient scoring and reliable playmaking. He appeared in 12 CCS games, starting five, and made the most of his minutes by leading the conference in field goal percentage (.642). His efficiency soared in conference play, where he shot an impressive 73% from the field and hit 83% of his free throws. Averaging 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in CCS action, Johns helped lead Huntingdon to a No. 3 seed in the tournament with a 19-6 overall record (8-4 CCS). His scoring and rebounding placed him among the top 20 in the conference, good enought for a second team all-conference selection.

Sophomore guard BJ Brown, of Birmingham, Alabama, received his second first team all-conference nod in as many seasons. The star guard averaged 18.2 points, 6.8 assists, and 5.3 rebounds a game. He led the CCS in assists by a margin of nearly 3 per game, finished 2nd in the league in scoring, and 3rd in steals with 2.2 per game. Recording 6 double-doubles this season, his assist total of 171 places him third in the NCAA.

Senior guard Martise Jackson put on a Huntingdon uniform for the first time this season and immediately shined. The Murfreesboro, Tennessee native averaged 10 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while consistently guarding the oppositions leading perimeter scorer. Jackson's 1.8 steals per game put him fourth in the CCS, just behind BJ Brown.

Transfer Ray'Quan Taylor made major contributions in his first season as a Hawk. The Montgomery native averaged 9.5 points per game to go along with 6.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks, good enough for 6th in the CCS.

Senior Richie Hicks rounds out Huntingdon's all-conference selections with a bid to the all-sportsmanship team. Hicks has been a member of the Hawks for 4 seasons, providing steady leadership throughout his career. This season, the Wetumpka, Alabama native has cashed in on 42% of his three point tries.

The Hawks kick off CCS tournament action tonight, hosting the Piedmont Lions. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM CT.
