Hawks Fall At Home Late To Berry

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Returning to action at home following off their 12-8 loss to Point University in their season-opener, Huntingdon Men's Lacrosse fought hard, but ultimately was taken down by the Berry College Vikings 14-9.

Berry drew blood first with a pair of unanswered goals in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead by the 6:18 mark in the quarter. Just 13 seconds later however, Kelcey Marston stopped the run with an unassisted goal, cutting the deficit to 2-1 before goals from Tristian Dial and Jacob Green inside the final 45 seconds in the quarter gave Huntingdon a 3-2 advantage as the second period got underway.

The Hawks, led by Jaxon McMonigle, captured their first quarter momentum and turned it into a strong second quarter start, as McMonigle hit on back-to-back attempts to extend the Huntingdon lead to 5-2 just inside the seven minute mark in the quarter. The Vikings recovered with three goals of their own to even things at 5 nearing the five minute mark, but a Colton Keglovic goal at the 2:50 mark put the Hawks back in front 6-5. Inside the final 2 minutes however, Berry tacked on two goals that put the Vikings ahead at the half 7-6.

Huntingdon opened the third quarter just as they did the second, with a pair of answered goals from Kelcey Marston and Hunter Rives that handed the Hawks an 8-7 lead by the 7:40 mark. Berry responded with a goal shortly after to even things up, but Jaxon McMonigle's third goal of the night put Huntingdon back in the drivers seat 9-8 with four and a half minutes to go in the quarter. Through the rest of the contest however, Berry put in 6 unanswered goals, surging late as Huntingdon dropped the non-conference contest 14-9.

#21 Nathan Brezovec drew his first start between the pipes for the Hawks, recording 9 saves while surrendering 13 goals in the loss. Ethan Schellenberger also time in the goal.

The Hawks will look to respond at home this Saturday, February 14th as they host Spalding University. Gametime is set for 1:00 PM CT.
