Hawks Fall At Home To Belhaven

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Coming off an 81-55 home victory against Wesleyan, Huntingdon women's basketball squared off with the 10-9(7-4 CC) Blazers of Belhaven University inside Roland Arena. The Hawks held a 20-19 lead after the first quarter, but would be outscored in each of the final three quarters, falling to 8-10(4-5 CCS) on the season with a 90-67 loss.

First Quarter

  • After falling behind 6-4 through the opening two and-a-half minutes, Kinstin Davis sank her first three of the afternoon at the 7:22 mark to put the Hawks in front 7-6.
  • Huntingdon's lead proved to be short lived, as the Blazers responded with a 5-0 run to hold a 12-7 advantage by the 5 minute mark
  • Consecutive baskets from Deshauna Foote and Charity Shaw sparked a 7-1 run, with Davis cashing in on an and-one to hand the Hawks a 14-13 lead with three minutes to go
  • Trading baskets as the quarter came to a close, Belhaven followed a pair of baskets from Briana Stuckey and Makayla Ford with two successful free throw attempts, cutting Huntingdon's lead to 20-19 entering the second quarter

Second Quarter

  • After trading baskets in the earlier stages of the second quarter, the Blazers reclaimed the lead 23-22 at the 8 minute mark
  • Charity Shaw capitalized on a shot near the rim to stop a 7-2 Belhaven run, cutting the deficit to 30-26 with 5:29 to go until halftime
  • Kinstin Davis cashed in on her second triple of the night at the 4:39 mark to bring the score to 31-29, but a 7 point Belhaven swing put the Blazers ahead 38-29 with 2:56 remaining until halftime
  • Two more triples from Davis kept the Hawks within striking distance at 40-35 with a minute to go until halftime, to which Lauryn Lyn followed with a three pointer of her own to cut Belhaven's halftime lead to 40-38

Third Quarter

  • A duo of Briana McGruder and Stuckey led Huntingdon's offense out of the half, trading baskets with the Blazers through the opening minutes. Nonetheless, the Hawks still trailed 48-44 with six minutes remaining
  • The Blazers pieced together an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to extend their lead to 56-44 with 2:35 to go
  • Cassidy Campbell followed a Kinstin Davis free throw with her first three pointer of the night to bring the score to 56-48, but the Hawks still trailed 61-52 entering the final period

Fourth Quarter

  • Davis kept the hot hand as the fourth quarter got underway, cashing in on a layup on the Hawks opening possession to reduce the deficit to 61-54
  • Belhaven caught fire late, making the most of a 15-4 run to push their advantage to 76-58 entering the final 4 minutes
  • The Hawks were outscored 13-7 throughout the rest of the game, taking the 90-67 conference loss
