Davis Eclipses 1,000 Career Points, Hawks Fall At Belhaven
JACKSON, Miss.- Coming off a resounding win at Wesleyan, Huntingdon women's basketball stepped into Rugg Arena this afternoon for a CCS showdown with Belhaven University. The Hawks started off strong, entering halftime with a 7 point victory, but the Blazers stormed back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Huntingdon 22-11 to take the victory, 66-59.
Putting up 9 points tonight, Kinstin Davis has surpassed 1,000 career points with three games remaining in the regular season of her senior year. Davis is the first women's basketball athlete to score 1,000 points in her career since Juliette Harp did in the 2017-2018 season.
First Quarter
- After trading baskets to open the game, an immediate six points from Makayla Ford at the 6 minute mark allowed for Huntingdon to extend an early lead, 11-2
- Briana McGruder cashed in on a short jumper to hand the Hawks their first double-digit lead of the game, 15-5 with 4:12 remaining in the quarter
- Ford kept her hot hand as the quarter wore on, hitting her second three pointer of the opening period to push Huntingdon's lead to 20-9 with two minutes to go

- A 6-0 Belhaven run to open the quarter cut the Hawks lead to 20-19 by the 8:20 mark
- The Blazers managed to tie things at 21 with 7:32 remaining before taking the lead, 23-21 on the ensuing possession
- Trading baskets as halftime grew near, Cassidy Campbell's triple with 4:22 to go until halftime returned the lead to Huntingdon, 28-25
- A 6-2 Hawks run, capped off by a jumper from Charity Shaw, allowed for the Hawks to take a 34-27 halftime lead
Third Quarter
- After trading baskets on the opening possessions of the second half, Deshauna Foote's layup at the 7:33 mark pushed Huntingdon's lead to 40-31
- Consecutive layups from Kinstin Davis extended the Hawks lead to double-digits by the 5:47 mark, 44-33
- Trailing 47-38 with three minutes remaining in the quarter, Belhaven pieced together a 6-1 run to bring the Hawks lead to 48-44 as the fourth period got underway
Fourth Quarter
- Less than a minute into the quarter, the Blazers evened things at 48.
- Locked up at 50 with 8:21 remaining in regulation, Belhaven pieced together a 13-3 run to hold a 63-53 advantage with 2:56 to go
- Huntingdon kept battling, sending Davis and Briana Stuckey to the line for multiple free throw attempts, but the Blazers late run proved to be too much, handing the Hawks the 66-59 conference loss.
