Late Run From Piedmont Puts The Hawks Away
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- In their final regular season contest of the 2024-2025 season, Huntingdon women's basketball squared off with the Lions of Piedmont University in Roland Arena. After a back-and-forth affair that featured 5 ties and 8 lead changes, the Hawks ultimately came up short, falling 76-71 to Piedmont.
First Quarter
- The Lions flew out of the gate, opening the game on a 12-4 run through the first 4 minutes
- The Hawks put together some solid offensive possessions to bring the score closer, but Piedmont still held a 17-6 lead with 3:28 remaining in the quarter
- Led by Makayla Ford and Kinstin Davis, Huntingdon pieced together a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 17-16 with one minute to go. Davis drilled a contested, stepback triple to put Huntingdon down 20-19 entering the second quarter
Second Quarter
- Cassidy Campbell got the second quarter underway with a three pointer on the Hawks opening possession to tie things at 22 before Makayla Ford hit a shot from deep of her own to give Huntingdon a 25-24 lead by the 8:25 mark
- Over the course of the following five minutes, the two teams traded blows, still finding themselves deadlocked at 30 with 3:33 to go until halftime
- Davis and Ford put in consecutive baskets to raise the Huntingdon lead to 35-32, but the Lions managed to reclaim the lead 36-35 with 32 seconds remaining. Kennedy-Ryan Jackson answered with a bank shot in the final seconds to put Huntingdon in front 37-36 at the halftime break
Third Quarter
- After trading baskets to get the second half started, a 5-0 Piedmont run put the Lions ahead 46-41 by the 5:24 mark
- The Hawks continued to battle, but Piedmont maintained their lead 52-46 with 3:27 to go
- Cassidy Campbell hit her second three pointer of the game with 1:46 to go in the quarter to bring the score to 56-54
- Charity Shaw closed the quarter with a midrange jumper to put the Hawks down 59-56 with one quarter remaining
Fourth Quarter
- Shaw, Davis, and Deshauna Foote each shared the load as Huntingdon's offense looked to mount a comeback, all three scoring to put the Hawks behind 62-61 with 7 minutes to go in regulation
- Shaw hit another jumper to give the Hawks the lead 63-62 with 4:15 remaining, but the Lions answered with 10-0 run to take a 72-63 lead and put the Hawks away, claiming a 76-71 victory

The Hawks await news of their seeding for the upcoming Collegiate Conference of the South tournament. Quarterfinals are set to begin on Tuesday, February 25th, with the 3 and 4 seeds hosting before the final four teams travel to the #1 overall seed.
